AS FOR HANK COMICS
~ S.W.O.R.D. 1-5 is the best comic ever to be prematurely cancelled, with him playing sidekick to his flawless lady, Abigail Brand. Everyone should read it everywhere. Collected in trade as X-Men - S.W.O.R.D.: No Time To Breathe! BUY IT.
~ His hanging-out-with-Molly-Hayes story in the Uncanny X-Men: Heroic Age one-shot is one of the few things Matt Fraction’s wrote that I like, and prolly features Steven Sanders’s best art of him yet published! Issue also features a Hope story by Jamie McKelvie, though the Scott story is best skipped (awful Whilce Portacio art will make that easier)
~ I have a massive affection for his run in Amazing Adventures 11-17, when he first became blue. Steve Englehart late wrote him again in Avengers starting in #137 (DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THAT ISSUE AT LEAST), but I’ve only read the first arc of that because most of it’s uncollected. (i really want to read the ones where patsy waltzes in all “HEY HANK YOU OWE ME A FAVOR AND I WANT TO BE A SUPERHERO, HOW ABOUT YOU MAKE ME HELLCAT”)
~ X-Men: Endangered Species is a story focusing on Hank’s obviously unsuccessful efforts to reverse M-Day. It’s kind of an ethically trying time for him, especially with Dark Beast coming around and pushing him to his limits. Not exactly an easy one, but I rather enjoyed it.
